There are things to love about winter. The avocados are fantastic and so is the fennel oranges and mandarins. Both of our kids were born in winter so we have parties and dinners and excited children. It rains. Today is the shortest day, so the days get longer from here. Like a true Melbournite I have whinged almost exclusively about the weather for all of this blisteringly cold day. Babushka Doll Skirt

Due to popular demand I have made a new batch of Babushka doll skirts. They come in 2 lengths 55cm and 63cm, and the Babushkas are in teal, red and pink colourways. I have them at the moment in sizes 10, 12 and 14 but am happy to make other sizes if they are required.

Jacket cardy

We went to the NGV 150th celebration at the weekend thus the watery image. I’ve put this photo in to demonstrate that I have been wearing this Jacket pretty much non-stop since finished. Its made from thick stretch wool that is soft enough to drape a little but not enough to be like a cardy, well not exactly like a cardy, but a bit like, but it can be worn as a jacket.

I’ve tried to capture the versatility of this garment in these photos, but black is difficult to capture and do justice to. The fabric is a medium weight stretch ponti which is warm and very comfortable. This can be worn with the long black ties grabbing the waist or as ashift dress with extra long sleeves which gather on the arms and fall around the hands. These sleeves look great coming out of a wide sleeved jacket.

This week I will be at the lovely Rose St Market in Fitzroy on Saturday from 11.00 til 5.00

The hail and rain were pelting down outside as I was photographing this whimsical summery piece. I can’t let go of summer just yet and although this one is not going to keep out the wind and chill its brothers and sisters will. The next ones will be made from wool crepe and they will wrap warmth around the body. I am a big fan of layering a shawl with a cardy and a medium weight coat in the winter for warmth, and variety, and a bit of colour…..

These bias cut denim jackets are great for Autumn. On its own it keeps off a chilly breeze but layered with a long sleeved cardy it is warm enough for evening or cold days. The more you wear it the more it will relax because it is cut to drop. The patterned lining is added for substance and a bit of colour peeping through.

Hacked to pieces

I mean why ? Well I have no explanation except that Sammy the hacker paid me the ultimate back handed compliment and hacked my site! Maybe what I do means something! Naaahhhhh……. Not even I am that delusional. So I’ve lost the last couple of weeks of blog entries because it is back dated to the last back up. So here is a balooning photo to give us all a lift.

One of the reasons why I haven’t posted for absolutely ages is because my site has been inundated with spam……..now a bit of spam is annoying but a lot of spam is positively infuriating. So I’ve just done a clean out and changed settings so that hopefully it will abate.

Another reason is that I’ve branched out into a new venture with Bonnie Gravy. She and I are creating a new line of old stuff, up-cyled and restyled and slightly remodelled. We have called it Mona’s Wardrobe and we are launching it this Sunday at the Rose St Artists Market where we will be every second Sunday for the next couple of months. We will also be at the Blackbird Market in April.

Cottage Nerd has been a little neglected I must admit………but it won’t be for long as I have some plans in the pipeline and will keep you posted.
