Why? because I bought this fabric in a moment of passion and now I have to do something with it, in the middle of trying to ramp up for this weekend, as well as giving due time to end of year dancing concerts and school picnics and finishing a rug project for school and multiple social engagements. Not that I’m complaining about a busy life, its actually loads of fun, but I had to complicate it further by deciding that this was the time for something new and different! Maybe the creative juices flow better under pressure. We will see! The little sewing machine is my fabric weight. Gorgeous eh?

Some days I just have to do stuff, like applique skirts and repair bed cushions, and buy zips. I made this cushion when I was in the full flight of my Babushka Doll fixation a couple of years ago. I made her cushion shape out of a sandwich of two pieces of cotton wadding cut to shape and some bouncy synthetic wadding in the middle. This has held its shape much better than the other one I made which was just stuffed. The face was done with fabric pen stitched over with running stitch in embroidery thread. She was caught up in a bedroom skirmish so her ‘base’ has come loose. She will probably sit in my sewing room for a couple of months ’til I get to her, but I don’t mind having her for company.

It was getting inspiration for a motif that was the tricky part. I only have girls and for this sort of thing girls are easy peasy. A girl will always go for a ‘love heart’ or a butterfly or some such cheesy thing, but how am I supposed to reproduce ‘Ben 10′. Imagine an applique ‘Transformer’!! I don’t have enough vliesofix for that! So I panicked and googled to see what other people were doing. I could have flagrantly ripped off a groovy little monster applique but I’m usually a little concerned about the application of the motif with the wearer, so in the end little 5 year old Methusela got an ‘M’. He was happy. Mission accomplished. Phew!
