2 way stretch pinny

I’ve tried to capture the versatility of this garment in these photos, but black is difficult to capture and do justice to. The fabric is a medium weight stretch ponti which is warm and very comfortable. This can be worn with the long black ties grabbing the waist or as ashift dress with extra long sleeves which gather on the arms and fall around the hands. These sleeves look great coming out of a wide sleeved jacket.

This week I will be at the lovely Rose St Market in Fitzroy on Saturday from 11.00 til 5.00

These bias cut denim jackets are great for Autumn. On its own it keeps off a chilly breeze but layered with a long sleeved cardy it is warm enough for evening or cold days. The more you wear it the more it will relax because it is cut to drop. The patterned lining is added for substance and a bit of colour peeping through.

When I made the pinnies and edged them all around with handmade bias I was happy and proud, but then I stitched some doilies to this beautiful lustrous silk velvet and made them into scarves and I got a tingle up my spine.

The last couple of weeks I’ve been making these garland rosette brooches. It all started when I needed a colourful something to wear to my Nieces wedding. I noticed Nicky wearing a large fabric brooch made from frayed strips of fabric in great colours. I asked if I could borrow it to copy or really imitate it and ended up making something that was similar and then taking the idea further into the realm of the rosette. My brooches are far more structured than the one that Nicky wears which is one of a kind and can’t be copied. They are fun to make and liven up a winter coat, jacket or bag.

I’m really enjoying wearing this at the moment! It’s the greatest and possibly the only perk of the job is test driving the merchandise.The Maroon Floral print is limited edition. Once these are sold I can’t make any more! The floral panel is a beautiful quality heavy cotton and the back panel is soft stretch denim.

I’m a cardie wearer, I think they are the perfect Melbourne garment. They have the right off-on-hot-cold-inside-outside applications, so I want to make some to sell and to wear, because like skirts they are hard to find under $150, with the elements of fun casual interesting good quality. Now… I’m not claiming to have covered all of these in the first try but here I go….having a stab.

Serious Trouble

The sale at GJ’s has me in serious trouble. Why? because I bought this fabric in a moment of passion and now I have to do something with it, in the middle of trying to ramp up for this weekend, as well as giving due time to end of year dancing concerts and school picnics and finishing a rug project for school and multiple social engagements. Not that I’m complaining about a busy life, its actually loads of fun, but I had to complicate it further by deciding that this was the time for something new and different! Maybe the creative juices flow better under pressure. We will see! The little sewing machine is my fabric weight. Gorgeous eh?

I can’t lie in bed anymore. The body wants to more than ever, but the brain nags and nags.

Today it is the cutting for the new patchwork skirt I am dreaming up. It is something that has been rolling around in the vault for a while, so I have applied it to the need I have to make a long summer skirt. There is no denim in this one, the palette is pink and blue…..very girlie, and it introduces a new size. The old size Large will become a Medium Large and I will slide a size between the old Large and the XLarge. This is because a lot of customers trying on the skirts fit somewhere between the two.

I would love to pop a bit of lace in there somewhere but that could be going too far, yeah?
